What we do

Akvo creates and shares internet tools that help to provide clean water and proper sanitation to those who today have none.

We help everyone share knowledge, match more projects to funds, and simplify reporting. We work with people around the world who want to use these tools to improve people's health and living conditions quickly.

Akvo is like a Wikipedia, eBay and YouTube for water and sanitation projects, rolled into one.

Akvopedia – Knowledge should be available to all, and edited by all. The Akvopedia is our knowledge centre. It's like Wikipedia, so can edited by anyone, which is how articles keep improving. But ours is a tool for development workers, NGOs and others managing water and sanitation projects in their communities. It's the place to go for knowledge – and the place to share your experience of what works and what doesn't.

Akvo Direct – Money and projects should meet in a flash. With Akvo Direct they do. Our unique project and fund matchmaking system creates a new, simplified way for those with money to browse and select projects to invest in. Organisations who seek funds for their projects have a place to showcase them.

Akvo Really Simple Reporting - Funding large numbers of small projects has always been considered too expensive. A big reason is that too much time and money is spent reporting on each of them. We simplify but improve reporting with Akvo Really Simple Reporting (Akvo RSR). This is a web and SMS-based reporting system that lets project teams share short text updates, images and films clips.
