Akvo's dev team is looking for a talented front-end web developer with great experience building large web apps and sites.
We're busy building the premier online platform for organisations of all sizes to transparently share the results of development aid projects with each other and the public. We're seeking a smart, articulate and proactive person to vividly bring this to life for countless people around the globe.
You design, build and integrate front-end templates for a highly transactional family of web sites. Our ideal candidate is a person who loves to work on things like:
- Simplifying user experiences and creating beautiful interactions
- Complex interaction sequences and error handling (e.g. registration, content management, multiple permission levels)
- Server-based content preparation (resizing, cropping, optimisation, text truncation)
- Multi-variable filtering of displayed data (e.g. interlinked live tabular and map displays)
- Development of responsive presentation for multiple viewports
- Growing and maintaining a beautiful garden of reusable and elegant code
- Identifying and evaluating competing techniques to take user experience to the next level
We'll expect you to:
- Design, iterate and present wireframes and mockups in PDF format
- Create, integrate and test front-end code for a growing suite of web apps and sites
- Work with other team members to prioritise, scope and collaboratively build innovations
- Engage in product testing and iteration
Skills you must have:
- Excellent communication in English, both spoken and written
- Passionate attention to detail
- Proven experience in transactional web applications
- Expert HTML/CSS and JavaScript skills
- Fluency in jQuery, HTML5, Django, Python or equivalent
- Fluency in Photoshop (other Adobe creative products highly desirable)
- Experience with unit and integration testing
- Comfort in moving between highly collaborative and semi-independent work modes
Other skills that would be really great:
- A background with design training
- Multi-lingual web app development
- Mobile app development
- Offline delivery (PDF delivery, etc.)
- WordPress experience
We expect this position to be full-time, but we would consider someone that works 50% or more for the long-term. We have some flexibility to adjust, depending on your range of skills. You should be based in a UTC+2 to UTC-5 timezone (Eastern Europe to US East Coast), and should expect to work from home or possibly in our office in Amsterdam, using chat to keep in contact with other team members. You must have already have a work permit for the country you will be working from.
