Construction of latrines for community of 2500 people living in a refugee camp. The health situation is very bad and many people become ill because of the poor living conditions and the absence of sanitation facilities.
Target benchmarks
- 12 functioning sanitation systems
- 288 persons with access to improved sanitation
To reduce the health risks for the people living in the camp.

Sustainability is an important part of the project. The IDP camp (Internally Displaced People) is a refugee camp, but as there is nowhere else to go, this is not a temporarily but a permanent camp. It is expected the camp will become the permanent residence of these people. Investing in sanitation is therefore a sustainable thing to do. Because the people concerned build the latrines themselves, they will be able to perform maintenance activities. Furthermore, training, education and awareness raising are also part of the project.

On the 23rd of August the ninth TAPPS Beach Volleyball Tournament which was held in conjunction with Earth Water descended on the picturesque beachclub 'Het Strandhuis', in Wijk aan Zee. It was the biggest outdoor online media event to be held in the Netherlands this year and brought together 78 teams and over 1000 participants from across the Dutch internet media industry to raise money for clean water and sanitation projects. With this money available the budget has been covered. After consultations between Daryeel Foundation and Aqua for All the local partner in Somaliland will be able to start with the project.
