Summary
This Economic Livelihood project will improve 2100 smallholder farmers incomes in Lelan and chepkorio project areas. It employs value chain devlopment approach to realise its expected results.This involves facilitating all the actors to play their roles effectively for equitable distribution of benefits along the chain.The project promotes 3 value chains as follows: Irish potatoes, passion fruits, and Poultry.

Current status
Training of farmer groups on importance of forming of an association.

Building capacity of the staff on VCD facilitation.
Training farmers on market infromation access using mobile technology.
The project goal is to improve the incomes of smallholder farmers by 10% by end of 2012. To achieve this, the project seeks to pursue five objectives as follows.
1) Strengthening of chepkorio Irish potato value chain
2) Linking Dairy value chain to EADD initiatives
3) Strengthening of MEFAT SACCO to serve Farmers and Traders
4) Replication of Value chain concept to other 3 zones of ELRECO
5) Strengthen capacity of ELRECO to facilitate VCD
Target group:
The targets are smallholder farmers who are disjointed and work as individuals in production and marketing thus exposing them to exploitation by middlemen.Access to quality inputs and affordable credit is a challangethus making them produce not only poor quality products but also low output thus leading to reduced prices and incomes.Extension service access is another constraint to the target group.Market information access is critical to informed decision making by the target group yet lackin
