Description
Established in 1992, Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) is a national level non -government organization (NGO) which was established to “bring water to the doorstep of the people, provide extensive health/hygiene education, and promote sanitation in communities through collaborative development programs”. NEWAH was established on the belief that in order to enrich the quality of people's lives, access to safe water and sanitation services is essential (NEWAH’s Constitution, Article 1, 2049 BS).
NEWAH has been able to provide access to WASH services to over 1.34 million people or about 5 percent of the total population, implementing about 1,580 WASH projects in 51 districts (as of November 2011). This has been possible through partnership with over 257 local NGOs and CBOs, building their capacity and that of the community to manage and operate water, hygiene and sanitation projects, master innovative technology, support livelihood opportunities, facilitate sharing of knowledge through different forums and networks and advocate for policy reforms.
